I’m not totally surprised. I knew someone who did an entire deck of card art for a toy company and I was shocked how low they were paid for each card given the work that went into them. The total amount was substantial but when you broke it down by individual pieces it seemed crazy to me.
JRJR remains one of my favorite comic book artists. Is he presently working at the same peak of his work in the 80s/90s? Of course not. That doesn't negate his greatness. The only thing I ever was mad at him for was jumping on the NFT bandwagon.
Thanks! Yeah it’s always eye opening to see the low work for hire rates on these things. I will say it’s absolute bs that the artists can’t sell prints or subsequently use their own card art for anything afterward.
If they said “come over for wings” then the food is wings! (I’d still take a hot dog tho)
With his X-Men fanfic being published this coming week, this is a great thread highlighting how there's more reasons to not support Byrne's work beyond his annoying "only I know what's best for the characters"-ism and general a-holery.
Fixed Chairman Beast’s weird pose because it was driving me crazy, added some skin tones. #xmen #wip
