People in the middle have given up on politics due to reductive theories like this one. I’ve lived in the Midwest the majority of my life, and I find people aren’t hostile to progressive ideas, they just don’t believe any governmental entity is actually willing to fight for those issues.

Native Americans didn’t “let” Europeans in. Cherokee Nation fought white encroachment on our land, first militarily & then through diplomacy for over 250 years. We lost that fight when the US army rounded us up at gunpoint and put us into concentration camps. That’s not letting someone on your land.
