I’ve made this point before that I think Chamberlain is a much more complex and complicated figure than reductive takes tend to be about him. No doubt about that. But if you don’t mention the Czechs or Edvard Beneš in the same breath as suggesting a more nuanced take, that’s not good either!

He wasn’t as bad as he is made out to be. After that he was solid against Germ. and was in Churchill war cabinet when he became PM. Also, anyone in a position of power in Europe at that time lived through and somehow participated in WWI which was disastrous for Europe Most were in no rush for war
