In 1869, a year after the 14A was ratified, the Lord Chief Justice articulated the common law rule on natural born subjects, shown here. Compare that with Thomas Jefferson’s 1783 notes on the common law. Is there any evidence that the LJC and TJ were wrong, but Professor Wurman et al. are right?
