One of the longest posts I've written because the box set includes 6 films 😅 I'm grateful I was able to check this out.
For the evening crowd, my full @cinapse.bsky.social thoughts on the eagerly anticipated BACKROOMS. Kane Parsons’ debut marks a fascinating new shift in studio horror—one that stumbles over some generational genre baggage, to be sure, yet still manages to be captivating and genuinely unsettling.

Scott Adkins has a new movie out! This one is a Guy Ritchie-esque British crime caper called #Reckless where is squares off against Vinnie Jones. It's solid! My @cinapse.bsky.social review: cinapse.net/2026/05/reck... #ScottAdkins #VinnieJones
I just saw BACKROOMS knowing next to nothing about it. @juliansingleton.bsky.social seems to have grasped it a lot more than I did in his piece at @cinapse.bsky.social. It was a pretty unique and haunting experience for me even if some of the purpose and lore eluded me.
An old-school swashbuckling epic that blends romance, adventure, and raucous humor with a sweeping sense of scale Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is lightning in a bottle, an old-school swashbuckling summer epic that blends romance, adventure, and raucous humor with a sweeping sense of scale. It riffs on the classic English legend with a bold, […] The post Arrow Heads: ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES [4K-Review] appeared first on Cinapse.

“People have a right to know the truth. It belongs to 7 billion people.” Regardless of what the frenetic state of the current weather is telling us, Summer is finally here. Before I continue, I’m going to try not to get all nostalgic about what movies used to be during this time of year, but […] The post Happy DISCLOSURE DAY to All Who Celebrate! appeared first on Cinapse.

Arrow Heads: ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES [4K-Review]
Happy DISCLOSURE DAY to All Who Celebrate!
The main thought that sprang to mind when screening Steven Spielberg’s new science fiction blockbuster Disclosure Day was how much it felt like a spiritual successor to his 1977 epic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. There a numerous parallels, not only in the mechanics but also in the substance. Once again, a handful of […] The post DISCLOSURE DAY – A Second Kind of”Close Encounters” appeared first on Cinapse.

New Zealandish film showcases effects from pre-LOTR Weta Workshop On a dark and stormy night, noted psychologist Dr. Karen Schumacher (Rebecca Hobbs) arrives at a dreary asylum to check in on a specific patient, a serial murderer named Simon (Paolo Rotondo). Through a series of interviews with Simon – outwardly a gentle and even handsome […] The post Blu-ray Review: Dour Serial Killer Thriller THE UGLY from Unearthed Films appeared first on Cinapse.

The latest film from German filmmaker Christian Petzold is available on VOD Director Christian Petzold’s recent cinematic collaboration with actress Paula Beer (Undine, Afire), Miroirs No. 3, isn’t as straightforward as it might appear. Beer plays Laura, a piano student who is marooned in a rural town after surviving a car crash and refusing further […] The post MIROIRS NO. 3 [VOD Review] appeared first on Cinapse.

Criterion Review: MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN [4K]
Terry Jones directs his fellow Pythons in this still sharp satire Monty Python’s Life of Brian remains one of cinema’s most irreverent biblical comedies, a film that gleefully pokes at the edges of faith, fanaticism, and human absurdity without ever losing its off‑beat charm. Rather than retelling the life of Jesus, it asks a cheekier […] The post Criterion Review: MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN [4K] appeared first on Cinapse.

What you get with the film is a Scott Adkins variation on the Ritchie tone, and Adkins’ energy and skill set are frankly one-of-a-kind right now.

BACKROOMS Thrillingly Captures the Horror Genre in Transition
Kane Parsons’ feature debut is fascinatingly caught between two generations’ instincts for what frightens us Much like the fictional liminal location itself, the Backrooms mythos seemed to manifest out of nowhere—arising in 4chan posts in the 2010s before taking on a viral life of its own. It’s a simple setup: people randomly find themselves inside […] The post BACKROOMS Thrillingly Captures the Horror Genre in Transition appeared first on Cinapse.
