If we believe public resources shouldn’t flow to platforms that harm our communities, that principle doesn’t end at social media. It runs through each relationship our city maintains. We’ll follow it toward a horizon of democratic control—building public power instead of feeding private profit

Neighbors —I'll be at Street Theory Collective (541 mass ave) today at 5:30 pm with Rep Mike Connolly and staff from rep @pressley.house.gov's office. Please drop by anytime until 6:30pm in central so we can work together on issues at the intersection of city, state, and federal government.
Under its current billionaire ownership, X has become a vector for hate speech and disinformation that endangers immigrants, people of color, and queer residents. Cambridge shouldn't spend public resources or lend municipal credibility to subsidize a platform that harms the people we serve
Most of the time, policy flows downward—decisions made elsewhere, handed to residents, and called "democracy." This time it went the other way. A resident named a harm, the community organized around it, and the city had to catch up. That’s what democracy is supposed to look like.

We drafted the order together, took it to residents, listened, revised, and brought it back. This wasn’t written in City Hall—it was written on the ground, together.
Cambridge is leaving X. Our policy order to take the city off the platform passed unanimously Monday night. Yesterday morning, the city posted a final farewell message—and then went dark. Thread below on how we got here and what we do next

This started with @misctakes.com — a constituent and an incredible @cambridgedsa.bsky.social member — who shared his firsthand experience: the harassment he faced, and what X, under its current leadership, has allowed. That experience is what ultimately drove him off the platform.
This is one brick in that foundation. So much more to build, together. Grateful to @misctakes.com, @cambridgedsa.bsky.social, and every resident who pushed with us until the city moved. We’re just getting started 🌹
