www.wweek.com/news/state/2... When I talk about local media manufacturing a negative economic image for Oregon, this is what I mean. Total net out-migration for the age cohort in the article is 1,661 out of 1.046 million Oregonians in that age cohort. All the sound and the fury signifying 0.15%.

New bombshell mayoral poll from LMU’s Center for the Study of Los Angeles: Raman 32.5%, Bass 17%, Huang 16.6%, Miller 13.4%, Pratt 11.5%. Nearly 48% of those surveyed said they prefer a democratic socialist for mayor: lmu.app.box.com/s/i6jtszzmyo...
Sometimes it's very hard to understand if a lane is reserved to trams in Switzerland. There is no such thing as "tram-dedicated lane markings" in the road code, only bus-dedicated ones, so most of the time you get either a continuous white line (do not cross) or a dashed one (can cross)

I recently saw this in a different context, but I'll drop it here: the progressiveness of a small tax is only one part of the equation. The progressivness of the big spending which is made affordable by the small tax is the other part. No tax and no spending is likely the most regressive of all.

"Considering apartment dwellers are more likely to ride transit, walk, and ride a bike to meet their daily needs, leading to even less road maintenance costs, the current proposal is even more regressive than has been acknowledged." - @strongtownspdx.bsky.social bikeportland.org/2026/03/30/g...

The compromise position is to do what Chicago does: keep the number, and co-name with an honorary street name. Have map apps refer to the numbered name.

strongtownspdx.substack.com/p/the-quick-... charging predominantly per acre seems smart to me since serving a huge area is why we have too many roads that are too expensive to maintain in the first place

Oregonians in their peak earning years–when they can contribute most to the state’s economy—are moving out of the state faster than their 30-to-50-year-old peers are moving in.

Studies have shown that studded tires reduce road life and cost the state millions in repairs. Many states have banned them and some, like Washington, charge a fee to use them. So, why hasn't Oregon followed their lead?

This is why after "punish the villains" we are doing "toddler new deal." National policies like treat people the way you want to be treated, clean up after yourself, share your toys

Better Things Are Possible
My brother is a high school teacher, and we had a long talk yesterday about how a generation of kids who have basically never witnessed competent adult leadership at the national level are about to come of age.
