Incredible post by @mastroianni.bsky.social. “The most important ‘rigor-enhancing practice’ is caring about getting things right, and without that nothing else matters.” (A teaser only barely touching the lessons of the piece). www.experimental-history.com/p/shame-them...
Did you think that small gene regulatory networks are only capable of very simple dynamics? Guess again! Even very simple networks are capable of a rich dynamics. Check out our brand new review paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... @perez-carrasco.bsky.social
"Unputdownable" is an apt description of quite a lot of @stevenstrogatz.com's writing! I'm glad to see such passion from a student who asked for summer reading recommendations 😀.
Right now, Professor Longhua Zhao from Case Western is giving a talk on fluid-structure interaction. Please see below for information about joining the seminar.
🚨 SMTPBconnect Event: Linking Theory and Practice in Eco-evolutionary Modelling 😳 Tomorrow (Weds March 18 2-5PM Pacific Time, Thurs March 19 8-11AM Australian Eastern Time) 🤠 Sponsored by @smtpb.bsky.social, hosted by Maria Kleshnina smtpb.org/event-6562940
Andrew's talk will highlight the use of @visualpde.com for visualizing numerical solutions to PDEs and related work informing a wide range of interdisciplinary collaborations. You can check out the VisualPDE platform to try out your own simulations. visualpde.com
www.nytimes.com/2026/03/29/o... This Ezra Klein piece on how the adopters are using— being used by?— LLMs is horrifying. It hardens my resistance to ever turning one of these toys on at the same time that it makes me more sure that I'm going to be completely out of step and behind as a result.

"The institution built to nurture enquiry has increasingly become one that merely measures, audits and verifies it. We produce abundant evidence of learning, but not necessarily more learning itself." Even before LLMs, this was increasingly problematic! www.timeshighereducation.com/opinion/bure...

Beyond that it's just the normal slow generational work of living together in a multi cultural society. Being willing to learn from and about each other and get along, presuming good will and letting each others quirks be while gaining the cultural and economic and interpersonal fruits of diversity.

It's just obvious that there is no good reason, at all, for the government to legislate what toilets you can go into. This is a thing that civil society was quite capable of working out. We're here because the GCs found civil society didn't share their rabid obsessive hatred so they played the refs.
