Low wholesale (spot) price means it is easy to match demand. High price means it is hard to match demand. CA has the lowest max spot price for the past year so the most stable grid.
Spot price has also declined with growth of solar+batteries, as seen in Fig 8 here

California's grid is so stable, gas output has declined by 62% in '26 v '23
Wind now provides ~same output as gas (~14% of demand)
69 days straight & 135/159 (85%) with WWS>100% of demand for 5.1 h/d among all days
WWS has supplied 57% of demand in '26
Batteries up 335%, demand down 0.9% v '23
CAISO has the lowest US wholesale electricity prices thus the most stable US grid despite its huge growth in WindWaterSolar
In-state WWS has met 56.8% of demand in '26
Gas down 61.2%, solar up 55%,bat up 334% '26 v '23
67th straight & 133/157 days in 2026 w/WWS100% of demand, for avg of 5.03 h/d

"This flight, for about an hour, will cost us about $8 in energy"
"The electric plane can charge in about 50 minutes"
"the aircraft can travel more than 300 miles on a single charge"
"Plus, as the plane descends, the force of going down actually recharges the battery."

California has the cheapest wholesale electricity prices in the country, and clean energy is the reason why
Free sun, wind, water batteries produce low wholesale prices. CA's retail prices are high for a few reasons, but RE is not one.
