God hates not only the doing of evil actions but their very devising. He requires much more than that I refrain from hurting my neighbor but that I do him good. The minimalist ethic of βDo no harmβ is sub-biblical.
βPart of the definition of love is being willing to burden your loved ones with what will bring them to healing, righteousness, and God. What a strange description of love to modern ears: Love means being willing to burden someone for their own good!β @oalannoble.bsky.social, ππ° ππͺπ·π¦ ππ¦ππ
βThese are the things that you shall do: Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace; do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.β (Zech 8:16-17)
I am π΄π° looking forward to this! Iβve been awaiting this announcement.
As indicated by the underlining, all of this(!) on the virtue of hope in @oalannoble.bsky.socialβs ππ° ππͺπ·π¦ ππ¦ππ:
βWe love because he first loved us.β (1 John 4:19 ESV)
This is commonly understood as referring to our love for God in response to his initiating love toward us. The context, however, suggests that love for each other is in mind. (See vv. 7-8, 11-12, 20-21)
