Still all quiet on the #NSF front. No new awards in the past week.
REMINDER: We still are hearing of trickles of terminations, suspensions, and money being held back from grantees, which NSF isn't reporting. We need your help - please report! 🧪

The ability to speed up, slow down, and pause talks in the recordings is a (weak) counterbalance to the FOMO #PEQG26
I'm doing an East Coast time mix of watching #PEQG26 talks live and catching up with ones at too late times via the recordings, which means when it's 6am at Ansilomar I'm watching @jnovembre.bsky.social 's keynote from Tuesday afternoon.

While fighting for my basic rights and bodily autonomy
In short, I’m fucked in matters from the vital to the trivial
I am the very model of a modern-age millennial..."
A recently finished undergraduate (with lots of research time in my lab) applied for 60 research tech jobs with no luck... And this week I talked to an undergrad (son of a family friend) looking unsuccessfully for summer research in evolutionary genetics - AS A VOLUNTEER.

Happy to share work from my lab tonight: an attentive grad student found that intra-species F1 🪱 hybrids have high nondisjunction - thus more XO males. Maybe speciation in action! No data on mechanism yet - what's your best guess? 🧐 Look for tic-tac-toe poster 205W: the next move is yours! #PEQG26
The US truly seems to be pushing eager young scientists to reconsider their life goals of research & higher ed. I'm sure these anecdotes are being repeated for many of you & am curious what systematic efforts are underway to catalogue & measure this deterrent effect on future talent
