It’s going to be a 🥵 HOT WEEKEND in NYC in so many ways, BUT opening a hydrant to cool off can waste up to 1,000 gallons of water per minute & reduces water pressure @fdny.bsky.social needs to fight fires. Contact @nyc311.bsky.social to request a spray cap, or stop by a local firehouse! #BigChain
#AlwaysKnicks #NYToughest💪
As the Knicks rallied with a game-winning 2-pointer, NYers held their number 1! At the final whistle and for the next 7 minutes, NYC saw a water‑use spike equal to 368,697 toilet flushes! As the #Knicks surged, we fought the urge… because we knew the team was on the verge… OF HISTORY! 🚽🏀🔥
Intern Corina Cao is a grad student at City College & excited to join our education team for the summer. Corina looks forward to connecting w/NYers on topics like our drinking water, stormwater management, & stewardship activities that protect public health & the environment.
When the forecast says RAIN. We check the STORM DRAIN! Your street catch basin, that is, which drains stormwater off the street to prevent flooding! Need assistance? Report clogged catch basins to @NYC311.bsky.social here: on.nyc.gov/2XM4jEU
Illegally opened hydrants = big problems 🚫💧 They waste 1,000+ gallons per minute and reduce water pressure 👉 making it harder to fight fires. They can also stir up sediment, causing discolored water. Stay safe AND cool by requesting a free sprinkler cap from the FDNY! 😎
Before Catskill water reached Queens in 1917, parts of the borough received water from Oakland Lake. It then was converted to a public park and in 2011 became the 1st Bluebelt project in Queens when DEP and New York City Parks restored it with infrastructure to prevent flooding. #tbt
A cold splash of 💦 is just the thing to cool down on a hot day in NYC, but illegally opened hydrants can reduce water pressure, stir up sediment, and waste up to 1,000 gallons of water a minute. Want to cool off safely? Ask @fdny.bsky.social to install a spray cap!
⚽️ Hey soccer fans! If you want to hydrate like a local, skip 👎 the single-use plastics and fill up your reusable bottle with delicious NYC tap water! Save money 💰, reduce waste 🗑️, and stay hydrated🚰 during the games!
