This colorful #Assyrian terracotta lion had a specific function: it's a rhyton, of a kind probably used for libations. The oil or wine was poured into the spout on his back, and was poured out via its pierced nostrils (!). He's a gorgeous boy, and I want one. #polychromy 🏺 1/
