Our Knitted Green Man made for our May Day celebrations is now on public display in our Chapel Gallery. He will eventually live in the actual museum, but we especially wanted all those who made and sent leaves to us to see the final glorious result.

The dolphin is notable as the only complete figure surviving in the mosaic, but it was probably a minor part of the original design. The shoulder of a ? naked bust at top right is all that remained of the main subject - one or more figures? - in this pavement. Intriguing ... 2/2

Use connected to satyr plays + myths, but instruments also part of ceremonies eg processions of Isis.

This dolphin in Winchester City Museum is an example of an early 'lifting' process: Steve Cosh's research showed that a tracing was made, the tesserae were shovelled up, and then they were reset in concrete. 1/2
