Tree Snipefly (Chrysopilus laetus) new to Yorkshire at garden centre in Shiptonthorpe VC61 . Seen 11 days ago but no pot with me...thankfully still on same apple tree today! Maybe garden centres explain the spread north? @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @ynuorg.bsky.social
One of our more spectacular soldierflies, increasingly being seen at inland locations
Day 8, #30DaysWild. Jackdaw outside @theul.bsky.social.
I've been squeezing in some #urbanplant surveys & workshops around book promo events. Yesterday I was at the @nhm-london.bsky.social learning to id #flies with the inspirational @flygirlnhm.bsky.social. This little cutie is a Soldier Fly (Oxycera).
First smart soldierflies are now on the wing in Lye Valley fen. First a female Common Green Colonel Oplodontha viridula, then a female Banded General Stratiomys potamida. Both sitting out a rain shower @friendlyevalley.bsky.social @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social @dipteristsforum.bsky.social
Teneral Physocephala rufipes ♂ found today on flowerbed wall in Bengeo garden, fascinating then to watch it change to its full adult colour over next hour. P.rufipes is most wasp-like of conopid parasitoid flies. @flygirlnhm.bsky.social
Preparing for @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social tonight… At least the sun is beginning to shine…
Three species of Volucella enjoying Bramble (Rubus sp.) today in Bengeo garden: V.zonaria ♂, V.inflata ♀+♂ & V.pellucens ♀. Magnificent hoverflies. @flygirlnhm.bsky.social

I wonder if any dipterists could help I believe that this is Stratiomys longicornis, but this species is supposedly from brackish waters This is in inland south Norfolk near a pond @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social @norfolknats.bsky.social #soldierfly #diptera
