141 years ago, on the 17th of June 1885, the French steamer Isère arrived in the New York harbour with the disassembled Statue of Liberty on board. Two hundred thousand people welcomed the boat and the statue to the city. The statue was a gift from the French for the US centenary. #otd #history 🗃️

This reads like “the most useless and self aggrandizing thing you’ve ever been invited to attend by the anti Christ himself, Peter T.”
I trust no one who attended this thing, more so if the understood clearly what they were attending.
