Really great session this morning on microbial circadian clocks. So much good science! #SRBR2026
Doing the periodic cleaning of used plasmid miniprep columns and realized in honor of Earth Day it may be worth reminding you molecular biologists:
Plasmid miniprep columns can be cleaned and reused essentially indefinitely! Just add 1 M HCl, soak overnight and wash 3x w/ water. Save $ and plastic

People keep (wrongly) claiming the overturning of the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology by discoveries like reverse transcription
Crick predicted such modes of information transfer were perfectly possible
Reverse translation is where he drew the line. Nature has never invented it. But we now have
Since I moved to @mrclmb.bsky.social Iβve been trying to answer this: Why are some mammals active at night and others in the day? Today our answer is out @science.org www.science.org/doi/10.1126/....

Congrats @benpwilliams.bsky.social !
Congrats, Francis. Well done!
Abstract. Most cultivated lettuce varieties have 27-hour circadian clocks resulting from domestication-driven selection for delayed bolting yet are grown u
Early mammals were nocturnal while dinosaurs dominated the daytime. Mammalian transition to daytime activity accelerated after the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction, but the underlying mechanisms remain...

Absolutely delighted that our paper on epigenetic dynamics during plant aging is out today in Science!

Woohoo! π Our preprint is out!
We studied an underexplored plant enzyme, ACC oxidase, and uncovered a new regulatory mechanism that controls ethylene biosynthesis.
Huge thanks to all co-authors and to my amazing supervisors, Dr Ivanhoe Leung and @hikemaydon.bsky.social!ππ±
Plants display a wide range of life spans and aging rates. Although dynamic changes to DNA methylation are a hallmark of aging in mammals, it is unclear whether similar molecular signatures reflect ra...
