We find that Denisovan ancestry in Eurasia spread through gene flow from early East Asians, but that the Jomon, very early inhabitants of Japan, had much less Denisovan ancestry than other early East Asians providing evidence for n ancient East Asian lineage with little to no Denisovan ancestry
The 2026 EMBL symposium 'Reconstructing the human past using ancient and modern genomics' is live with a fantastic invited speaker lineup!
Abstract deadline 9 June. If work is ongoing, plan for Heidelberg in Septemberπ.
Organised by Maanasa Raghavan, @matejahajdi.bsky.social, Choongwon Jeong & me.
Was fun working on this with Jiaqi Yang @benmpeter.bsky.social @stephanepeyregne.bsky.social @leonardoiasi.bsky.social @niallcooke.bsky.social
In a new paper led by Jiaqi Yang we trace the distribution of Denisovan introgressed DNA in ancient modern human genomes over time.
