(Quick note. You shouldnt pick up real mice by their tails. Their tails are their little spines and they’re delicate and easily broken. You should support your mousie’s body with your hand while you scoop them :3)
I love nature. And IMO mice are as much like mammals as they are like communal fossorial insects. Like ants or termites. For this reason I find them fascinating
Stretchy sides would solve this problem without sacrificing a secure fit, imo
