I saw The Return episodes 16, 17, and 18 on the big screen tonight, checking off another bucket list item.
There is an atmosphere Lynch captures in episode 18 that is unlike anything else I can place; he makes his own show's landscape both familiar and unrecognizable at the same time, like when
you visit your old elementary school & everything looks off. Diane/Linda's note says she doesn't recognize Cooper/Richard anymore, Carrie Page doesn't recognize Laura Palmer, by the end Cooper can't place the year, etc. It feels very *real*, a hyper-real take on 'you can't go home again.'
