Censorship of online spaces is only going to accelerate, and will eventually become a web of legal tripwires for a Yookay-esque e-police state characterized by harsh punishments for online speech. Nobody with "respectable" politics has any answer to this btw.

I wouldn't say Rome was characterized by bad generals. It was certainly characterized by dysfunction at the highest levels, often due simply to its attempts to LARP as an intact republic.

It's grimly amusing watching people who get queasy at the thought of punishing petty criminals call for members of the federal government to be arrested + imprisoned. A state that loses its lunch over the former probably can't pull off the latter. Basically, the law matters or it doesn't.
We have the party of crypto scams versus the party of infinite race riots. Naturally, I don't vote for either. I would vote for the party of nuclear fusion if there was one, but the future holds nothing but crypto scams and race riots.
