As of May 19 2026, the TOGETHER plagiarism lawsuit has reached the point where the court is attempting to get the parties to settle at mediation. Normal stuff. The litigation still appears to be moving forward. Very curious to see where this goes.
Forgot that Paul Zindel’s estate sued over similarities between THE SHAPE OF WATER and one of his plays, in which a cleaning lady at a laboratory discovers a super-smart dolphin being cruelly tested by scientists. She forms a bond with it and tries to sneak it out in a hamper. The parties settled.

As of last month, it looks like the defendants (the TOGETHER parties) have hired another attorney. Now it looks like both sides are preparing for discovery, which could get interesting.
Naturally, everything is moving at a snail’s pace, because it’s litigation.
