In my opinion—as someone who grew up with and loved the old Academy of Sciences and de Young Museum—the new Academy is a national treasure.
As for the de Young, I dislike its grim, rather sinister exterior, but it's actually nice once you get inside. And the viewing tower (no admission fee!) is A+.
Shame on Utah County!
My roots there go back to 1852 but I clearly remember my mother telling me that she had vowed at a young age that she would NOT raise children there. So I grew up on the West Coast, a much saner environment, for which I will always be grateful. Thank you, Mom!
