The Govt has been consistently warned: they have had a whole year and found the money for American jets, but not for British security. The Govt must publish the DIP, so we can meet immediate threats and give a boost to British firms. A year of drift is a year our enemies have not wasted.
While this Labour Government drags its heels, the threat does not pause. In April the MoD tracked a Russian submarine loitering over the cables and pipelines that carry almost all of Britain's data and energy. Our spy chiefs say the window to stay ahead is closing.
Liberal Democrats have called for years for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be banned in the UK. We will work with the Government to get this law adopted without further delay to protect our Iranian diaspora and Jewish communities. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The Government has also wasted time to reform woeful defence procurement. Failures like £6.3bn on Ajax tanks that left soldiers vomiting & £1bn on 12 American F-35A jets to appease an unreliable US president. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

So the question is: what is a defence review worth if the cheque never clears? Three in four UK defence firms report paused or cancelled contracts. That hits firms in the supply chain here too - like Airbus in B&W - denied a clear pipeline to invest and hire. news.sky.com/story/uk-fir...
Trump appears finally to have realised what he started. He followed Netanyahu into this war and has pursued it without clear goals and with casual indifference to the consequences. Now he is claiming he can rein in Netanyahu. For once, let’s hope he’s right. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...
As my colleague @jamesmaccleary.bsky.social commented, the Liberal Democrats would cancel the order and buy 12 British-built Typhoons instead. The same number of jets, but a genuine sovereign capability, backing British jobs, skills and putting over £500m back into our domestic forces.
Last year’s strategic defence review promised to end the hollowing out of our forces The funding plan slipped from autumn to Christmas to this week. Senior NATO figures have called the Governments handling incompetent. Yet still, Ministers are failing to act. inews.co.uk/news/its-bul...
Why the delay? A Treasury-MoD row over billions. Last week, i reported the plan would land this week to steady the PM against the backdrop of a Burham coronation. Now it has slipped again. Britain’s rearmament is being held hostage to managing Starmer’s premiership. inews.co.uk/news/politic...

🧵 Russia is running daily attacks on Britain, from the seabed to cyberspace. GCHQ recently warned that they are "relentlessly targeting" critical infrastructure and democracy in the UK. A year ago, Ministers promised action. A year on, they have delivered delay. news.sky.com/story/russia...

GCHQ boss reveals how Russia is 'relentlessly targeting' the UK
The spy agency has helped thwart Kremlin-linked plots as director warns risk of wider conflict is "as high as I have ever seen it".
