1. After getting some further insight into changes at NSF (thanks to those who reached out), I deleted a previous post where I tried to make sense of Cheatham's memo as reported in the Science story below.
Ryan (and me) are hiring a PhD student! Sweden is a great country to do a PhD, see the link or ask us for more details, or share with potential students!

Teach hydro modeling? Want to introduce modeling in an intro class?
Check out this web-app, activities, and code (in case you want to spin off your own)..
Thanks @jansei.bsky.social for working with me on this, which was inspired by his HBV-lite teaching software!

Smaller future budgets will require fewer people, NSF official tells staff
Aquatic metabolism is reflected in the dynamics of dissolved oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. Thus, paired measurements of CO2 and O2 concentrations can capture the metabolic char....

We introduce a web-based tool to explore hydrological modeling in classrooms. The app can be run in any internet browser on a variety of devices. The app and code are available for free. We include m...
This meta-analysis assesses the rates and drivers of greenhouse gas emissions from flowing and standing (sub)tropical inland waters, finding that emissions are lower than previous estimates. Considera...

My latest paper is now out in Limnology and Ocenography Letters @aslo.org, titled "Emerging patterns of CO2 : O2 dynamics in rivers and their link to ecosystem carbon processing". It is open access, so go read! I am mostly proud of this figure, which I spent a lot of hours figuring out how to do it

New @science.org paper shows early-2020s methane spike driven mostly by a temporary slowdown in the atmosphere’s methane removal and climate-boosted natural emissions. IceLab’s @grocherros.bsky.social helped quantify methane from running waters, improving understanding of the global methane budget.
