Spent the last two years developing a new Intro to Physics course for undergrad biology majors. It features tons of examples from biology (especially Ecology & Evolution!) and requires only middle school-level math. Lecture note here shorturl.at/0PiVp
Any comments or feedback are highly welcome!
🧵 New paper! We’re excited to release OPTICS: software that immediately predicts color sensitivity from any opsin protein sequence.
In other words: give OPTICS any opsin sequence, and it predicts the wavelength of light the pigment is most sensitive to 🌈👁️ academic.oup.com/mbe/advance-...
🔊 We're getting ready to update the @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social #phylogeny & #taxonomy! Please please please! If you have a phylogeny published in the last year, or you've noticed one we're missing, let us know via the feedback form at the top of the page. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/phylogen... @world

I signed up for a workshop where I knew we'd need to essentially practice social skills by roleplaying
TBH I've never felt great at roleplaying, I barely know the rules of engagement when I'm being my real self, but I think I'll be better for it
First world problems, but when I'm fundamentally unable to find my files because Spotlight on my Mac is indexing or something I am just not able to get work done
Luckily these files are on Box, so that search is working for me...
New paper out! In this one with @ndimhypervol.bsky.social, @rdinnager.bsky.social, @economo.bsky.social, and Ale Casadei-Ferreira, we show that some commonly used ENM/SDM permutation tests can be badly derailed by not accounting for sampling bias.

Thwaitesia argentiopunctata, the 'mirror- or sequined-spider', native to Australia, has scales coated in guanine, the same as the "G" base in your DNA.
Guanine forms rhomboid crystals with a high index of refraction, making it a biological 'mirror coating'. Sparkly!
