As always, really appreciate the good folks at The Business allowing me to do these awesome sit downs! As a comic book geek, I was in heaven!
I wrote long on The Boys in season 4 so never did the final season but my take holds: smartest dumb show on TV, which is 1000x better than dumbest smart show. The Homelander-Jesus stuff was almost weirdly prescient but tbh my favorite satire of the final season was the fake Taylor Sheridan series
HBO notes that this week marks the 25th anniversary one of its best shows, the funeral home-set drama, Six Feet Under. Back in 2002, I was lucky enough to visit the set, and my story for the Tampa Bay Times a year earlier, explained why the series was so awesome: loom.ly/i4US7Y8
If u missed: Prime Video's superhero satire The Boys attracted - according to showrunner Eric Kripke - 60 million viewers in its final season. Here's a look at my interview w/Kripke on why fan backlash doesn't both him and my pitch for why it deserves Emmy gold. READ: loom.ly/y8OQlH8
As a bona-fide comic book geek, it was a blast to interview The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke about backlash to the superhero satire's gonzo finale for KCRW’s The Business - a talk which left me even more convinced this series deserves an Emmy. READ: https://loom.ly/EWE295Y
Wondering what to watch on TV this summer? Check out this preview of new and returning shows I whipped up for NPR and Substack which includes new Star Trek, final season of The Bear and a great film about the most influential R&B band in music history. READ: https://loom.ly/AsaV5Ho
As a former Floridian, hurt to see John Oliver's look at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' bogus makeover of New College of Florida. As Oliver observes, DeSantis turned a scrappy liberal arts college into a sinkhole of money, bogus education ideas and payments for his allies. WATCH: loom.ly/K4rIfcU
Fired ‘60 Minutes’ correspondent Scott Pelley offers a searing interview w/NYTimes, saying CBS News’ editor in chief put “a thumb on the scale for the President’s version of events.” This is what I described in my Substack column analyzing why the fight over 60 Minutes matters: loom.ly/3DuBh8k
Now that the three remaining correspondents at 60 Minutes have agreed to stay on, I offer a few thoughts on why the newsmagazine's uncompromised survival matters, and whether that is possible under its current management. READ: https://loom.ly/3DuBh8k
LateNighter reports that, as expected, Jimmy Kimmel benefitted most from the end of Stephen Colbert's Late Show. His ratings for Monday's episode were up over 50% year-to-year, compared to a near-50% drop in ratings for the show which has succeeded Colbert, Comics Unleashed. https://loom.ly/dI6FwS8

My latest piece for NPR looks at all the cool - and, let's be honest, not-so-cool - TV shows coming at a time when good weather and vacations beckon.

Summer TV's best: 'Star Trek,' 'Superman,' 'The Bear' and the story of history's best R&B band
After interviewing Kripke for KCRW's industry-focused radio show and podcast The Business, I'm more convinced than ever the TV academy should get over its bias against genre shows here.

Why 'The Boys' showrunner Eric Kripke - and his subversive superhero show - deserve Emmy gold
Now that three of the show's correspondents have agreed to stay on, the pressure's on to preserve the show's long history of journalism independence and quality.

First Post-Colbert Ratings Snapshot Gives Kimmel a Commanding Lead - LateNighter
First on LateNighter: Jimmy Kimmel didn't just win the first head-to-head night of late night's post-Colbert 11:35 p.m. era, he consolidated a sizable share of the audience CBS left behind.
