As for the argument that the US will lose credibility internationally if it is seen to lose to Iran, well it lost any credibility long ago by electing someone like Trump, and then letting him ruin the country and commit all sorts of crimes at home and abroad totally unchecked.
If it was Americans or Iranians they would just have bombed the ship and killed some of the crew.
3/ falsely and pull out of Iran. That is a better outcome than the US continuing even longer in its special military operation.
The US also did this at the Iranian girls school and bridge.
1/ Maybe we should stop making fun of Trump trying to stop the Iran war, saying he is losing to Iran etc, though it is true. You don't want to motivate him to continue or escalate it to look tough. The only ones really benefiting from the US continuing to fight Iran longer are Putin, Xi and Bibi.
2/ Putin benefits from the higher oil price and the lifted sanctions. Xi benefits from having the US use up its munitions on Iran and pull assets away from the Pacific theatre to the Persian gulf and get quagmired there so China can have a free hand to threaten Taiwan. So let Trump claim victory
