I can work with either as a player easily enough, and have done. Harder as a GM to have tabula-rasa players—but!
See: @adinfinitumadv.bsky.social's "The RetConQuest." Starts with the timeline having been altered and the players don’t know who they’re supposed to be. Characters are rolled up during.
GM Tip: When you don't know a rule mid-game, make a quick call and move on. Look it up between sessions. Stopping play to debate the rules kills momentum. Accuracy matters less than flow.
