Just to be clear I'm using popular music here to mean not jazz or classical, and rhythm very broadly The main riff from Bleed is one slowly bent note and is made interesting solely through its rhythmic complexity. Most of meshuggah is like that
I'll bite. The two most important things in popular music are rhythm and flow and no amount of interesting compositional choices can improve a song that uses them improperly
