In 2023 the COVID case rate for age <1 was 18.2% of all age groups and has now doubled to 37% in 2026 to date. For age 1-4 in 2023 it was 1.9% and now more than 3x higher so far in 2026 at 6.3%. 5/
COVID case rates decreased across most age groups this past update except for age <1 which had a significant increase and almost matching the same levels as age 80+. The 1-4 and 60-79 age groups currently have the same rates. 3/
COVID cases per 100k population have been dropping each year since 2023 and the case rate for children (0-19) in 2023 was 215 (16.5%) compared to 1085 (83.5%) for adults. 7/
Looking at age groups, those age 75+ had the highest rates of hospitalization due to COVID but decreased since last update. Tied for second place are the 0-4 and 65-74 age groups. 2/

When looking at year to year COVID cases, an interesting pattern is emerging with the percentage of cases per 100k population being detected more and more in children and less in adults. 4/
The 80+ age group dropped from 58.6% in 2023 to 44.5% in 2026 so far despite that age group qualifying to be tested the most. The 60-79 age group dropped from 10.1% to 7.6%, while the 40-59 age group dropped from 5.4% to 1.9% and 20-39 dropped from 4% to 1%. 6/
In 2026 so far, the case rate for children and adults are are much closer with 41 cases per 100k children (37.7%) compared to 67 cases per 100k adults (62.3%). 8/
