We saw the same continuum of motor control strategies characterised by tradeoffs between robustness and adaptive capabilities, which is a predictor (in statistical sense) of short-term adaptation when the environment is predictable: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
tl;dr: Reaching movements are formed by a combination of (at least): ➡️ Robust, model-free strategies ➡️ Online adaptation ➡️ Trial-by-trial adaptation (<-- standard) They are dissociable ! How much you recruit them depends who you are (it is a personnal trait) and how uncertain is the environment
#NCMKobe26 A great meeting ! And more posters from the lab coming 😎 @ncmsociety.bsky.social
➡️ Robust control (reject "unmodelled" disturbances), ➡️ Online adaptive control, ➡️ Trial-by-trial adaptation. These components are separable behaviourally and reveal individual traits characterising how we handle external disturbances...

Preprint out by @harikalidindi.bsky.social : reaching movements result from multiple control and adaptation processes dependent on whether the context is predictable: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

When anticipation is not enough: a mixture of robust and adaptive feedback control strategies improve reaching in dynamic environments
Successful goal-directed movements depend on the central nervous system’s (CNS) ability to handle diverse physical interactions. The CNS is thought to handle different dynamical contexts through three...
