I remember years back writing a short story for an unpublished DW charity anthology w. this theme... My take was I did it like a Sergio Leone movie. 1st Doctor as aging gunslinger. Doesn't regenerate, instead transfers mind into the body of another person at their point of death. And no Tardis.
