💬 Early-Career Challenge:
“I get more rejections than acceptances and it’s not fun. But being in academia, you become thick-skinned about these rejections and focus on your science. Believe in the science you are doing because it will open doors.”

💬 Career Advice: “Choose a good advisor.”
Excited to feature early career researcher Emma Lathrop @elathrop.bsky.social in our upcoming Spring Seminar series!
Emma is a postdoc at Northern Arizona University studying how permafrost thaw alters soil carbon cycling using field methods, soil carbon characterization, and radiocarbon techniques.
She hopes to better understand how these underground partnerships respond to changing environmental conditions and improve predictive ecosystem models.
Her work helps us understand how warming Arctic ecosystems may accelerate climate change through greenhouse gas release
Her research explores how environmental factors like water, nutrients, CO₂, and light influence the symbiosis between AMF and plant roots. By measuring the C cost of acquiring nutrients and water in the presence of AMF.
✨Featured Scientist Spotlight✨
Meet Snehanjana Chatterjee (@snehanjanac.bsky.social), a PhD candidate at Texas Tech University studying the fascinating and complex relationships between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). 🌱🍄
“One of my favorite parts about being a scientist is the people!” 🌍 🧪❄️
