to have to dig down so deep within yourself and your family history to understand that it was never your fault that you’re poor? to feel stupid and inferior because you didn’t have access to the same resources? that the trailer you live in has kept a roof over your head but all anyone sees is trash?
i didn’t realize how much this country hates poor white folks until i left florida and went up north.
do y’all even know how HARD it is to unlearn all of the propaganda you’re taught in the south? to sit with the discomfort that everything you were told is a lie?
