The fact that people in my mentions are utterly confused about the fundamental difference between a press release from the NYT Communications department and a reported story by an NYT reporter really underscores how genuinely appalling the behavior of NYT was here.

charitably, maybe what happened here is that something was lost in communication between the board and the AMA's comms department (ironic) - but in that case, why not report *that*, instead of doubling down on reporting that you now *know* isn't the whole truth?
