Are we doing performative footnote writing now? I've been using Endnote/Zotero since my PhD and I find it very helpful. I don't think that makes me less of a scholar, does it? I also don't think people who write their own are dinosaurs.

Cowardly **** has turned off QTs. So, yes, I've just finished a 120,000-word research monograph, and I typed every single one of the footnotes myself.
