objectively the funniest critique an american could level at another country
It’s been 5 weeks since NYU Langone ended care. Mamdani’s office has not directed H+H to absorb patients or enforced NYC human rights law against the hospitals stopping care. He also has not answered multiple trans journalists questions on if he will commit to doing so.
Not even a nod to the fact that their most engaged voters are in the streets with signs that if they were social media posts would get them banned. A lot of canned lines about connecting with the average voter and zero attempt to actually do so. Breathtaking
Gorsuch's opinion for the court holds that Colorado's law is subject to strict scrutiny as applied to talk therapy. But Gorsuch does not actually run through the test here—he just strongly implies that when the lower court does, it'll be obligated to block the law's application to this plaintiff.
Aaaand it's Chiles; bans on talk conversion therapy are unconstitutional. Gorsuch writes the 8-1 decision. Only Jackson dissents. Kagan and Sotomayor write a separate concurrence.
folks they’re calling it a suicidal mix of isolationism and interventionalism the likes of which the world has never seen
This decision applies only to talk therapy, not forms of "conversion therapy" that involve physical interventions (which are really abuse). It does not strike down Colorado's law on its face. Actually, it does not invalidate anything—it just holds that this kind of law is subject to strict scrutiny.
happy trans day of visibility to all of the incredible trans people in my life. the world is better with you in it and I'm never going to stop fighting for you, because your fight is my fight. we're in this together.
