IMO Avatars in fire emblem always end up warping the game in either a story or a gameplay sense. Most avatars are some of the best units in their respective game (Kris, Robin, Corrin, Byleth). I get why IS adds them: easy self insert to learn the world and a way for fans to start shipping lol

Extra:
I have no idea why Theodora is still gray. My guess its a deliberate design decision which is pretty disappointing. IIRC, shes from a kingdom not listed on the map shown in the trailer. A playable queen as one of the protagonists is still kinda cool I guess.

Yap yap time about Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave!!!
Making the game more open ended and bringing back SoV's exploration gameplay is cool.
Apparently there is an avatar character and that already killed some of the hype for me. IS will never give up having multiple campaigns or a self insert :/

As much as the new characters look cool and exciting, I am not fond of the idea having a number of the FW playable roster be descendants/ancestors to the 3H cast. I find it to be such a cop out because its fanservice. Then again, FE did *worse* with including the awakening kids in Fates.

On the upside, I am glad to see actual melanin in the game. Seeing black hair done surprisingly well is refreshing to see. Fire Emblem didn't really have darker skinned characters due to graphical limitations until likeβ the Tellius era. FE6 had Garret but his battle sprite was still white lmao
