You've got to hand it to President Trump: He is (inadvertently) making the case for DC statehood so powerfully that it's going to reverberate even after he leaves office. Maybe especially after he leaves office. Maybe helping make this the first order of business in Jan 2029.
What a legacy!
Of course there will certainly be some prominent lawyers arguing "don't mess with the Supreme Court" to the very end. And you can predict some of their names now!
But the legal profession as a whole, like America as a whole, is in motion on this issue and has been for a few years now.
Not the main point, but this is a real window into the elite law bias against contingency fees, which is the only way most non-rich people can get lawyers in civil matters. Particularly galling from Ruemmler, who decided the best thing to do after serving in the White House was to sell out
I genuinely hope the politicians will exceed my expectations. And perhaps they will! hey have a stronger herd mentality and perhaps that means once the dam breaks, you'll get the median mainstream Dem politician strongly on board for major democratic reforms.
But don't sleep on angry lawyers.
I hear you, but "the legal profession" is overbroad.

If I were going to put money on which group would have a higher % of strong voices out there in 2027 or 2029 making the case for Supreme Court reform, lawyers vs Democratic politicians, I'd put money on lawyers.
