The one major hurricane I went through in NOLA - as many people died after the storm from CO poisoning than died during the storm from any other cause.
Seriously don't ignore those warnings. NEVER in a garage. NEVER next to the front/back door. NEVER under a window.

If you lose power due to flooding and own a portable generator, make sure you run it outdoors at least 20ft away from your home.
A portable generator can produce enough carbon monoxide to kill in minutes.
