Thoroughly enjoyed a talk by @drmjwarren.bsky.social today at @whisbynaturepark.bsky.social about his book, and got my copy signed! It explores Englandâs bird-related place names and how they reveal historical and cultural connections between people, birds and the landscapes they shared.

A new one for me in the ponds this evening - water stick insect, Ranatra linearis. A hemipteran, it ambushes prey with raptorial front legs before injecting it with digestive enzymes and sucking out the resulting soup. Fascinating!
So honoured to have my book included on this shortlist - good luck to everyone!
