Lloyd's Register & Lloyd's Register Foundation are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthias Altendorf as the new chair of its boards.
Matthias will succeed current chair Thomas Thune Andersen when he leaves the role at the end of his tenure in June 2027.

These anniversaries offer a chance to reflect on LR’s long-standing presence in both countries and the people whose work helped shape maritime and industrial development across the region.
In Egypt, LR’s first non-exclusive surveyor was appointed in Alexandria in 1886, with the first exclusive surveyor appointed just half a decade later, in 1891.
June 2026 marks two important milestones in LR’s global history: 140 years in Sri Lanka and in Egypt.🌟
In Sri Lanka, the first non-exclusive surveyor was appointed in Colombo in 1886, with the first exclusive surveyor following in 1945.
In 1908, artist Frank Brangwyn was commissioned to create a striking series celebrating London’s dock workers for Lloyd’s Register’s headquarters at 71 Fenchurch Street.
But decades later… the panels vanished.
