2/ Thus, while Juneteenth is a time of joyful celebration, it is also a perfect opportunity to reflect on how we can free ourselves from the limits of healthcare injustice once and for all. Read the full post from MacKenzie (Kenzie) Isaac, MA here: thosenerdygirls.org/liberation-j...
1/ Liberation and health equity go hand-in-hand. #Juneteenth is observed by many as the formal end to the American institution of slavery. However, remains of this shameful legacy are still burrowed deeply into our healthcare system, impacting everyone’s ability to live freely in good health.
5/ What can we do to address & ⬇ injustices LGBTQ2SIA+ individuals & communities face? As a start, we can be open, aware & curious – even if we don’t “get” someone else’s sexual orientation or gender identity, being inclusive & non-judgmental is a huge step in making everyone feel accepted & safe.
4/ Folks from the LGBTQ2SIA+ communities experience health disparities compared to their non-Queer peers in the following areas: 🔹Heart Disease 🔹Breast and Cervical Cancers 🔹Violence 🔹Mental Health Conditions 🔹Substance Use Disorders 🔹Sexually Transmitted Infections 🔹Eating and Body Image Disorders
3/ At TNG health equity isn’t a seasonal focus – it’s core to what we do year-round. The health disparities facing LGBTQ2SIA+ communities are well-documented, underaddressed, and directly connected to structural inequity.
2/ Visibility is important because it leads to improvements in safety and health. When we see representation across various sectors, it leads to destigmatization and societal change.
It’s #PrideMonth! Every June, communities across the U.S. & around the world come together to celebrate, honor & uplift LGBTQ2SIA+ people & their families. Let’s keep building a world where these communities are seen, valued & understood. Post from @emkayhey.bsky.social & @sandylaping.bsky.social 👇
