This report is a little misleading. If the Law Officers decide to refer the case, that doesn't necessarily mean the sentence will be increased. It means it'll go to the Court of Appeal, where it could be increased, or the court might dismiss the appeal.

Dash cams are useful as a method of supporting the police, as per my previous post. But they might also help avoid being a victim of this kind of thing.

I should probably point out that when I post about "motor murder" and "motor manslaughter" cases, these are not separate offences. These are cases where the law on murder and manslaughter is used to prosecute defendants who choose to use their car as a weapon, or who kill through gross negligence.
