@chrisgelardi.bsky.social and I wrote about wandering officers in NY in 2024. (Link below.)
But there's truly no one like Joseph DeAngelis, both in terms of the range of misconduct he committed and the fact that it was all discovered through self-admission.

Though he seemingly resigning from multiple jobs in lieu of termination, and he admitted to lots of misconduct, DeAngelis can still serve as a police officer in New York State — a shocking example of the many loopholes in the state's officer decertification laws.
NEW — a story I've been working on for 3 years:
In a job interview in 2020, officer Joseph DeAngelis admitted to misconduct in 5 previous depts ranging from falsified reports and using the n-word to off-duty drunk driving, shoplifting and animal abuse.

NEW (my first solo byline for @nyc.streetsblog.org)

NEW, for @nysfocus.com:
Last month, we obtained hours of body-cam from Oswego County. It showed sheriff's deputies pulling over drivers — and if the drivers didn't speak English, the deputies called Border Patrol. Some drivers were held for 30+ min while BP responded.
