I think, from now on, any time something doesn’t go well for me I’m going to blame SICK DERANGED VANDALS for whatever happened.
It’s basically impossible, as a parent, to know whether the fun and interesting plans will seem fun and interesting to the children you’ve dragged along with you. So I’m happy to report that two days at Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Yorktown were generally well-received by the whole family.
If things have seemed quieter around here, it’s because I’ve been on a family vacation to visit relatives in Virginia. Apart from the usual travel-related shenanigans and general excitement of children thrown off their usual schedules, we were fortunate to do some American history sightseeing.

I’m well aware of it because I participated in it fully for about fifteen years of my adult life and, looking back on that time as well as looking at what’s going on today with friends and colleagues, it makes absolutely no sense to me.
