It’s not our job as journalists to be ‘sympathetic’.
Enjoyed this moment in a fantastic piece. First time I’ve seen someone try to pin him down on what ‘Manchesterism’ means and how it’s applicable to the UK. He struggles.
I’m on holiday so not doing any Burnhamism this week but I think the fact you couldn’t finish a sentence about his ‘innovative vision’ without pointing out a contradiction shows it’s really a loose set of ideas that don’t cohere (the growth came from Bernsteinism) and have never been fleshed out.

On the fight against Reform, what he would do differently to Keir Starmer, and how he wonders whether Brexit would have turned out differently if he had been elected Labour leader in 2015.

Ha no probs. Agree those would be transformative, but I’ve missed the speeches where Burnham argues for these things in a way that feels thought through and committed enough to be implemented in government. He throws a lot of stuff out there. Devo is the exception - that we really should expect.
“Much as I would love to dispute this unflattering designation, I fear Joshi has me bang to rights. My wife certainly thinks so.”
