I can’t describe what an honor this is… As a former teacher and reading specialist, recognition from librarians is the HIGHEST honor imaginable. The fact that DC allowed @gabrielpicolo.bsky.social and I to take these risks w/ their beloved characters still floors me.
Congrats to all the winners in every category, and huge thanks to EVERY teacher and librarian out there, who are putting books in the hands of kids and teens who desperately need them. YOU are the real superheroes.
While the graphic novels are fun reads, they also tackle issues like identity, body image, neurodivergence, disability, self-doubt, trauma & loss. They’re love letters to both fans of the Teen Titans and the diverse students I taught during my years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist.
