Complicated story...
* 60-something old 'homebound' woman is living in her family house
* man started 'helping her', seems to be financially abusing her - got her to buy him a car & take in roommates
* one of the roommates found him raping a 3rd woman (50-something woman from Oakland)
"The woman has lived on the block for more than 30 years" ie since 1996 at least
this was a largely African-American neighborhood before 2000

this being Berkeley, I had an interesting conversation with a Waymo engineer at the No Kings on Saturday.
he confirmed what I assumed - that Waymo is basically setting pricing to have a set amount of availability / response time. so it surges when there's a lot of demand.
the actual revenue amount is IMO still fairly irrelevant - it's losing a ton of $$$, probably even after removing capital costs.
but if I'm google I basically don't care for now - I'm after dramatically lowering costs over time & building an amazing rider experience, not current P&L
Tesla has 1,500 vehicles 'signed up' to be robotaxis in the Bay... but currently are only permitted to operate with human drivers

My #365DaysInOakland is finished (started out as #365DaysofOakland).
I'll likely add more -I'm not moving!
